Abstract
Background: Myopathies, a diverse group of muscle disorders affecting over 1.7 billion people globally, pose significant therapeutic challenges due to their varied causes and symptom severity.
Method: This narrative review explores current treatment approaches, including herbal remedies, complementary therapies like acupuncture and massage, physiotherapy, nutritional plans, and emerging gene therapies. Herbal remedies and complementary therapies offer symptom relief for some patients, while physiotherapy aids in maintaining muscle function. Nutritional plans support overall health, and gene therapies hold promise for addressing underlying genetic defects. However, treatment efficacy varies, and many approaches lack robust evidence.
Conclusion: This review highlights the need for future research to focus on large-scale clinical trials to evaluate safety and effectiveness, personalize treatment strategies based on individual patient profiles, and improve access to innovative therapies. By addressing these gaps, the medical community can better manage this widespread and debilitating set of disorders, ultimately enhancing patient outcomes and quality of life across diverse populations.
