Background: The study's objective was to compare the efficiency of the Integrated Neuromuscular Inhibition Technique (INIT) which is a manual technique that includes three maneuvers to provide relief from pain which are Muscle energy methods (MET), ischemic compression (IC), and strain-counter strain (SCS) with posture correction using a postural belt in participants with Mechanical Neck Pain.
Methods: In this single-blinded randomized clinical trial 40 participants of mean age 34.32±7.90 years with mechanical neck pain were randomly divided into two groups. Group A received INIT and Group B received Posture Correction technique using posture Belt. Treatment was given 3 times a week for 3 weeks. Pain, craniovertebral angle (CVA), and neck disability were evaluated at the baseline and after the 3rd week.
Results: Both intervention groups showed statistically significant changes for pain, CVA, as well as neck disability after intervention (P<0.05). However, INIT showed better results than posture correction for all outcome variables.
Conclusion: INIT was better in reducing pain and disability along with improving CVA in mechanical neck pain than posture correction. However, Posture correction belt can also be used as the next treatment of choice for its ease of application, easy acceptability and improvement in pain, disability and CVA too.
