Background: Methamphetamine addiction is a worldwide growing concern associated with executive dysfunctions that can negatively influence the daily life. Most conventional executive dysfunctions tests are complex and time-consuming. It seems that using a valid, reliable and simple instrument to assess the executive dysfunctions is necessary. The present research was intended to assess the psychometric properties of Persian version of the dysexecutive questionnaire (DEX-P) in methamphetamine- abstinent individuals.
Methods: One hundred participants, who were in the age range of 20 to 50, selected via convenience sampling. The Dysexecutive questionnaire(informant and occupational therapist rating), Behavioral Assessment of the Dysexecutive Syndrome, Stroop test, Wisconsin Card Sorting test, and Tower of London task were then applied in order to evaluate the participants. The face validity, convergent validity, internal consistency, test-retest reliability and inter-rater reliability of the DEX-P were then examined. Analysis of the obtained data was done by applying SPSS. v. 23.0 software at a significance level of 0.05.
Results: Face validity demonstrated acceptable range (impact score: 1.95 to 3.86). Convergent Validity is supported by significant correlation between DEX-informant rating and other assessment tools. There was good to excellent internal consistency (DEX-P occupational therapist rating: α = 0.91 and DEX-P informant rating α = 0.87). The test-retest reliability result for DEX-P occupational therapist rating and informant rating were ICC= 0.911 and 0.925, respectively. The inter-rater reliability result was ICC = 0.980.
Conclusion: DEX-informant rating could serve as a reliable and valid instrument to evaluate the dysexecutive symptoms in methamphetamine- abstinent individuals.
